Biography

Before assuming the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at Dillard University, Dr. YolandaW. Page was dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff (UAPB). Formerly, she was chair of the Department of English, Theatre and Mass Communication at UAPB and director of Title III and Academic Success at University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

As Vice President for Academic Affairs at Dillard University, Dr. Page is the university’s chief academic officer and provides administrative oversight to 63 full-time and 82 part-time faculty. She is responsible for the academic integrity of 21 academic majors housed in three colleges. Since assuming the position in July 2013, she has secured funding to support faculty development and student success. Additionally, Dr. Page worked with an ad hoc committee of the Faculty Senate to study and develop a systemic orientation and acclimation program for adjuncts. As well, she worked with the Faculty Senate to implement two recognition activities designed to increase faculty and staff morale. Most recently, under her leadership the university has added a medical physics curriculum begun offering online classes which includes a hybrid RN-to-BSN program.

As Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, UAPB’s largest academic area, Dr. Page focused on increasing faculty literacy of social media—Twitter and Facebook--as pedagogical tools. Another focus was increasing faculty interest in external funding/grants. During Fall 2011 the School of Arts and Sciences hosted the university’s first National Science Foundation (NSF) Day. Dr. Page also oversaw the development of a new interdisciplinary degree, the Master of Science in computer science technology, which was the first of its kind in the state of Arkansas.

During Dr. Page’s tenure as department chair, the Department of English, Theatre and Mass Communications increased its enrollment and retention of majors; successfully revived two dormant programs: 1) the forensic association which has been consistently ranked among the top twelve International Public Debate Association (IPDA) debate teams, and 2) the theatre program which won 1st place for its production of Home at the 2008 National Association of Dramatic Speech Arts (NADSA) Conference and was recognized as Arkansas’ Best Ensemble in 2011. Additionally, during her tenure the department increased its offering of online courses by 100 percent.

Yolanda Page, Dillard's vice president for academic affairs, said the new center is in keeping with the strategic plan announced by Kimbrough earlier this year. Its main goal is to identify programs with a strong potential for growth. Preparing students for careers in civil service and the law, Page said, is "something we have done well for decades, and now we're formally elevating it to a place where we can expand and grow."...
