Biography

Award winning editor/writer/director Rachel Ann Pearl earned a BS in Neurobiology from Cornell University before she came to her senses and moved to Boston, MA to attend Berklee College of Music. She forgot to leave.

Rachel spent the next 15 years performing jazz, folk, and rock music and making short films. Her own films, Cats Can be Quite Satisfying and The Shabbos Goy have screened in festivals around the world including the IFP LA Film Festival, The Palm Springs Short Film Festival, The Big Bear Film Festival, Methodfest and San Diego Jewish Film Festival. The Shabbos Goy won the Best Directing and Best Screenplay award at UCLA and the Best Student Film Award at the Washington Jewish Film Festival.

Her editing work spans narrative, multimedia and documentary genres. Her feature work includes the documentaries Fema City, which has screened in numerous festivals across the country. Pearl’s editing work on Samantha Davidson’s film, Dead End Job received a Best Editing award in 2005 at the UCLA Spotlight Awards. Dead End Job went on to win the Best Short award at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival.

Rachel’s most recent feature, Courting Chaos is doing the festival rounds and has won awards at the Hollywood Reel Film Festival, Houston World Fest and the Big Island Festival in Hawaii. A documentary she edited, Change is Gonna Come is also about to be released.
