Biography

DAWN BRAY is an adjunct lecturer at the Virtual Academic Center. She is currently a part-time school social worker for the DeKalb County School District in Georgia, where she serves an international student population of approximately 700 students.

For more than three decades, she worked full time as a school social worker for the district, covering approximately five to 14 schools every year and providing a variety of services to children, adolescents and their families. These services included offering conflict resolution and mediation training; providing group work with students, staff and community leaders; conducting team-building workshops with staff and peer groups; presenting programs to staff, parents and students in the areas of personal responsibility, child and personal safety, and diversity training; and acting as a liaison between the schools and the court system regarding attendance laws.

Bray has participated on multiple committees and task forces regarding child abuse and neglect, suicide, teen pregnancy, violence and bullying, safety, homelessness, computer competency and crisis intervention. She served as chair of the DeKalb Area Council for Better Agency Communication, chair of the Attendance Task Force for Social Work, committee member of the Child Abuse Protocol Task Force and member of the Hispanic Coalition. She also supervised an internship program to assist universities in placing social work interns.
