Biography
Before joining Farmingdale in the summer of 2014, Dr. Ryman - also a professor of medical technology - was Dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. During his tenure there, he established master’s degrees in occupational therapy and long-term-care nursing, and developed a doctorate in health professions education. Prentice Hall published his book on medical technology/clinical laboratory science, and he has authored more than 20 articles on the health sciences. He has won nine grants during his career and presented papers at a dozen conferences. He did post-doctoral work in health disparities in under-served populations at The Johns Hopkins University.

Psychological distress, fatigue, burden of care and quality of life in primary caregivers of breast cancer ABMT patients.
I discussed issues presented by caregiver of breast cancer patients who were generally in stage 4. Financial, time, social factors facing caregivers were highlighted. Also information was given about support groups, end- of-care treatment, etc. Presented at Era of Hope, National Breast Cancer Conference, Department of Defense Cancer Project.
An overview of bioterrorism agents.
The talk ranges from 30-45 minutes in length and can be edited as to the makeup of the audience. Speaking points range from descriptions of bacterial/viral agents to methods of dissemination. Some history is provided, including examples of anthrax spores sent via the US Mail, spraying a homemade soup of bacteria on salad bars in Oregon, and Tylenol contaminated bottles. Also, depending on the audience, time will be spent vaguely addressing the ease to which one’s kitchen could become a bioterrorism production area.

A summary article that used survey data as to how oncologists used tumor markers in their practice in the initial diagnosis, recurrence, and treatment monitoring in breast cancer patients. At the time 25% of surveyed oncologist used these blood test in their practice, current literature reveals the percentage to be much higher.
