A Fulbright scholar from Argentina, María Elena de las Carreras has a Ph.D. in Film Studies from UCLA. She is a regular collaborator of the Latin American Cinemateca of Los Angeles and the CSUN Cinematheque. She is an accredited journalist at the Berlin Film Festival since 1986. She has published many journalistic articles, scholarly essays and encyclopedia entries, in English and Spanish. From 2008 to 2012, she was a screener of international documentaries for the Sundance Film Festival. She is a visiting professor at UCLA and Cal State Northridge, and has been invited to lecture most recently at Universidad Austral, Argentina and Universidad de los Andes, Chile.
