Biography
Dr. Baker teaches several courses within the department including experimental methods, statistics, professional ethics, careers in psychology, team building and group dynamics, ergonomics, and several other industrial/ organizational psychology-related courses.
Dr. Baker is an active member of the Cedar Crest community, having served on numerous committees including the faculty personnel committee, the institutional research board, the assessment committee, and the Middle States educational standards review committee.
Dr. Baker practiced applied psychology for over ten years in private and public organizations before coming to Cedar Crest College. She began her career as an intern and research specialist for Bell Atlantic, and then was a management consultant for the Hay Group, a nationally recognized consulting firm. For the next six years, Dr. Baker served as a Personnel Research Psychologist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where she gained a broad range of experience in the areas of psychology, business, and criminal justice.
Dr. Baker is a member of the American Psychological Society, Eastern Psychological Association, Personnel Testing Council of Metropolitan Washington, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology. She has published several articles in respected journals, and earned honors and awards for excellence in her field and teaching. She most recently received a Society for Teaching of Psychology grant.

A campus survey of faculty and student perceptions of disabled persons

A positive classroom climate is essential to the success of students with disabilities in higher education. In a study of 268 students and 76 faculty members at a small liberal arts women’s college in eastern Pennsylvania, participants responded to statements about students with disabilities. Findings indicate that faculty and students perceive the classroom climate differently, with faculty members describing the campus as more welcoming, inclusive, and supportive than students.
Assessing safety: A campus-wide initiative

Student behavior inside and outside of the classroom is an issue that impacts faculty, students, student affairs personnel, and the entire college community. Any type of violence or disrespectful behavior can disrupt the learning process. Due to recent violent events on college campuses, an assessment of campus safety was conducted.
General education and civic engagement: An empirical analysis of pedegogical possibilities

Could a general education program serve as an effective tool for the promotion of engaged citizenship among students if pedagogies of engagement were incorporated into a critical mass of the courses making up such a curriculum? The purpose of this article is to present empirical evidence suggesting the potential benefits of systematically utilizing general education as the institutional foundation for an integrated, multidisciplinary learning environment expressly dedicated to the promotion of civic engagement.
