Biography

I have been involved in informatics since being a project lead for the hospital's implementation of the barcode bedside nursing documentation system in 1986. In 1990 I was certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and am currently certified as well. Between 1990 and 2004 I was involved in many aspects of informatics including system selection, implementation of patient safety and quality software, database management, business development and teaching of informatics. In 2004 I was the lead in an Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) grant to implement quality indicator software in 66 rural hospitals in Texas. Then, in 2010, I had the opportunity to be the lead for an Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology grants to implement Regional Extension Center in north Texas. Currently, I am one of the four informatics faculty for a one million dollar Health Resource and Services Administration (HRSA) grant to deliver an interprofessional health information technology program focused on the underserved population.
