Biography

Dr. Mary Ann Cantrell is Director of the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing PhD program. Her research is two pronged: she has focused on health-related quality of life in survivors of childhood cancer and quality and safety practice behaviors in simulation based teaching and learning experiences. Her interest in quality of life for survivors of childhood cancer led her to develop a “Hope Intervention” for childhood cancer survivors which she was able to test through an NIH grant. Dr. Cantrell's work is now incorporated into nursing curricula and national survivorship guidelines. She has translated her research about the caring nursing presence to the next generations of nursing students through the use of simulation.
