Biography

Christine has over 30 years’ experience working in the community development field both in local government and non-government community organisations. Christine is currently the Director Community Development at the City of Melville.

Christine is passionate about best practice and, under her leadership, Melville has been recognised for their innovative practices that includes membership to the WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities, one of the first in Australia to gain membership. Melville is recognised as an Australian leader for their age-friendly strategic planning and initiatives and is currently implementing their third Age-Friendly Melville—Directions from Seniors Plan. Christine’s leadership has also seen Melville leading community and neighbourhood planning practice; innovative responses to community health issues, community safety and community engagement.

Christine has led the partnership between the Western Australian State Government and Local Government regarding a coordinated approach to age-friendly communities. She is currently Chair of the Local Government Manager's (LGMA) WA Association Network Age Friendly Communities. The Network convenes several times a year to host Forums and workshops on matters of interest to those using an Age Friendly Communities approach. Local government in Western Australia is well represented at these Forums.

She also represents the LGMA Network on a Western Australian State Government Age Friendly Inter Agency group that includes representation from various State Government Agencies, and convened by the Department Local Government and Communities. This group meets regularly to attempt a more cross government approach to age friendly communities in Western Australia.
