SILVIA HERNÁNDEZ-PÁEZ is an adjunct professor and field liaison in the Children, Youth and Families department.
She started off her career working in one of the few family HIV/AIDS clinics open at the time. During the onset of the epidemic in the United States, she worked tirelessly to advocate for children and women, particularly Latinas, around the nation. She has also worked in mental health settings, within the Los Angeles Unified School District as a psychiatric social worker and with Healthy Start as a coordinator. In addition, she served as a clinical director and supervisor to several mental health professionals.
In 2005, Hernández-Páez founded her own outpatient mental health clinic in the San Fernando Valley, serving underserved clients and victims of abuse and trauma. She remains committed to mentoring and training professionals in the mental health field.
