Susan Torrey Barber is an Associate Professor in Film Studies. Dr. Barber received her doctorate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. She has taught at LMU for 24 years. Four of those years were spent as the Chair of the Film and Television Studies department, where she helped inaugurate a film and television studies minor in 2011.
Dr. Barber is a film historian with expertise in American, Australian, British and Irish film, as well as the representation of women in world cinema. Her book on Australian Cinema, Visions of Australia: the Australian Film Renaissance, is forthcoming.
Dr. Barber has been nominated twice by ASLMU for Outstanding Professor in the School of Film and Television, in 2008 and 2010. She received the LMU Greek Council Award in 2003 for Outstanding Cinema Professor.
