Biography
Timothy Yontz, Professor of Music Education for the Conservatory of Music at Wheaton College in Illinois, has conducted the Symphonic Band since 2007, and teaches courses in music education and conducting.
Dr. Yontz is the recipient of the 2016-2017 Senior Service Achievement Award in recognition of sustained excellence in service as a Wheaton College faculty member. Under his direction, the Wheaton College Band performed at the 2014 North Central Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association and the 2013 Illinois Music Education Conference.
Before joining the faculty at Wheaton College, Dr. Yontz served as Associate Director of Bands at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for six years, and Director of Bands and Coordinator of Fine Arts in Wisconsin and Indiana public schools for seventeen years. While at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he was also Music Director of the Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omaha’s Community Concert Band.
Dr. Yontz holds a Ph.D. in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska, Master of Music from Butler University, and Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University. He is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, Illinois Music Education Association, Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmaster Fraternity, and is a recipient of the National Band Association’s “Citation of Excellence.” Dr. Yontz is an active guest conductor, clinician, and festival adjudicator.
