Biography

T. J. Harper earned the Bachelor of Arts from CSU, Fresno, a Master of Arts from CSU, Northridge and the Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Southern California. After 10 years teaching in New England, he is excited to return to Southern California and join the LMU community.

Choirs under Harper’s direction have performed at annual conferences for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and international performances by invitation include Austria, Czech Republic, Spain and Italy. Harper has received invitations as conductor, clinician and lecturer throughout the United States and internationally with engagements in China, Hong Kong, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Taiwan, and Venezuela.

Harper is a board member of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) and he is the Chair of the ACDA International Activities Committee. Harper’s research interests have led to funded research projects in Germany, France, and Austria. He has published numerous articles in the ACDA Choral Journal, the IFCM International Choral Bulletin and he is also a contributing author to Student Engagement in Higher Education: Theoretical Perspectives and Practical Approaches for Diverse Populations.
