Biography

Tuong Vi Ho became TWU full time faculty in the Fall, 2008. Since then she has taught in various areas, both undergraduate and graduate to include adult health, health assessment, cultural immersion, along with nurse practitioner graduate courses.

Prior to her employment to TWU, Dr. Ho worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in a variety of positions including staff nurse, nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner. She is board certified in gerontological and family nurse practice.

Throughout her professional career, Dr. Ho has had opportunity to remain in contact and collaborate with the United States Vietnamese nursing community. She was the founding president of the Vietnamese American Nurses Association which was formed in 2008 and based in Houston, Texas. She works with Vietnamese students and nurses to enhance their professional skills as well as cultivate their Vietnamese heritage. Her philosophy is that Asian and Vietnam Cultural Immersion courses focused on health care and nursing in Vietnam help to close the cultural competency gap for nurses when compared to health care and nursing practice within the United States.

Recently Dr. Ho went to Vietnam and presented her research regarding knowledge of breast cancer in the Vietnamese woman. She also lectured on palliative care in cancer patients at the International Cancer Conference at Hue Center Hospital and Medical and Pharmacy University in Vietnam. She and other faculty have led two student cultural immersion trips to Vietnam (2012 and 2013).

Research and professional interests include cancer research in minority populations, nursing education in view of cultural competencies from a global perspective, improving nursing care in developing countries through education and mentorship of nursing faculty in developing countries.
