Biography
Dr. Fung's research interests lie in health, development, and applied microeconomics, with a particular focus on maternal and infant health, early childhood exposure to shocks, and nutrition. Dr. Fung studies whether and to what extent improvements in health and in the disease environment can have a causal impact on one's economic well-being. Dr. Fung has published research on the long-term health and economic effects of malaria eradication; intergenerational effects of famine in early childhood; mortality effects of antenatal testing for syphilis; as well as research work on human trafficking and business as missions.
Dr. Fung attends Chinese Christian Union Church in Chicago Chinatown. She enjoys traveling and has been on short-term missions trips and research trips to China, Philippines, Cambodia, India, North Africa, England, Sweden, and Israel-Palestine working with high-school and university students, restaurant workers, and urban slum communities.
