Are you covering Haiti Recovery?

Ken Keen

Associate Professor in the Practice of Organization & Management; Associate Dean for Leadership; Lieutenant General, USA (Retired),  Emory University, Goizueta Business School

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti last week has left over 2,000 dead and many more missing. Goizueta Business School’s Ken Keen is in Haiti this week working with the rescue mission. When he returns Friday, he can discuss crisis management and what steps need to be taken to assist in the affected areas. He says the remote location of the epicenter is presenting a major challenge.

Keen was the commander of the Joint Task Force in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. He was charged to lead the more than 22,000 personnel, 19 ships and 57 aircraft assisting in the disaster. Keen coordinated the U.S. earthquake response working with Haitian leaders to provide emergency medical care for more than 100,000 Haitians. He continues to work with a Haitian relief organization.

The retired lieutenant general spent 39 years in the U.S. Army with positions including Military Deputy Commander of the U.S. Southern Command, Commander, Joint Task Force-Haiti and Commander positions around the world. He can speak to emergency preparedness and the steps following a natural disaster.
