Focused on adults and healthy aging, with experience in acute care hospitals, long-term care, geriatric care management, and oncology.


AMBER FORD is a clinical associate professor of field education and has been a member of the social work field education faculty since 2012. She currently serves as regional field faculty for Virtual Academic Center students in the Northwest region, which encompasses Northern California and 12 western states. She served as regional field education director for the Northwest region for nearly four years.

In addition to administrative functions, Ford teaches Virtual Field Practicum, Integrative Learning for Social Work Practice and Social Work with Older Adults courses. In spring 2016, she expanded her role to include consultation and field and operational support for the Nursing@USC program. In this capacity, she is responsible for the coordination of evidenced-based intervention training for Master of Science in Nursing students.

Prior to her field education post, Ford worked extensively in outpatient oncology, where she provided direct services to patients and their families, facilitated multiple support groups and led program development initiatives. She implemented the Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery program for children affected by loved ones with cancer. As a recipient of a competitive grant from the LIVESTRONG Foundation, she also implemented the Cancer Transitions: Moving Beyond Treatment program. In addition, she served as an agency field instructor for the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work VAC, the University of Washington School of Social Work and Eastern Washington University School of Social Work.

Ford has professional experience across medical social work settings, including acute care hospitals, long-term care, geriatric care management and oncology. She is a licensed clinical social worker in the states of California and Washington, and is one of fewer than 500 social workers nationwide certified in oncology social work. She is an approved supervisor for licensing candidates and provides individual and group supervision for social workers seeking licensure. Ford is also a certified grief recovery specialist through the Grief Recovery Institute.
