Biography
Dr. Amy Kirkland PT, DPT, OMT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT
Board Certified in Orthopedics & Sports Physical Therapy
Fellowship Trained in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy
Dr. Kirkland graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2003 with her Masters degree in Physical Therapy, where she received the Richard Borden award for clinical excellence. She received her manual therapy certification in 2005 when she trained under Dr Richard Erhard. In 2007, she completed a sports residency program through Proaxis Physical Therapy, and received her board certification in sports physical therapy. She graduated in December 2009 from Regis University with a Transitional Doctorate as well as a Fellowship in Manual Therapy. She became board certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 2009.
Her research interests and past projects include investigating the best evidence based approaches in treating multiple cervical and lumbar conditions, outcomes of PT diagnosis in a primary point of care role, and post-operative intervention.
Invited presentations include those related to athletics and spine for the Steadman Hawkins Sports Symposium and Primary Care Symposium. Other presentations have included the APTA Annual Conference, South Carolina Chapter of the APTA district and state meetings, South Carolina Coaches Association Upstate Conference, and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Association State Conference. Her case study, “Surgical and Therapeutic Management of a Complete Hamstring Avulsion after a Failed Conservative Approach”, was published in JOSPT and was presented at the national AAOMPT meeting.
Amy is a member of the Orthopedics Section of the APTA and AAOMPT.
In her spare time she enjoys participating in church functions, spending time with her family, mountain biking, hiking, watching any University of North Carolina sport, as well as US women’s soccer.
