Biography

Anthony Palmiscno is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish at Loyola Marymount University, who focuses on Iberian contemporary cultural studies. His primary research interests include the performance of identity and cultural branding through food and wine in the Spanish autonomous community of La Rioja, and how such gastronomic expressions sustain regional identity within the larger context of Spain and neighboring Basque peripheries. His work primarily interrogates consumption in bars, wine festivals, and other gastronomic spaces of conviviality. Other academic interests include representations of food and wine in contemporary Spanish literature, language pedagogy, 21st century learning in the context of language learning, technology-enhanced learning in the foreign language classroom, and performance pedagogy to foster spaces of safety within the classroom and community.
