Biography
Bahar Armaghani developed and teaches courses on leadership and greening the built environment. Bahar is also director of the UF Green Building Learning Collaborative (GBLC). Bahar established the fourth global LEED Lab (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), along with the first WELL Lab. She also created UF’s Green Building Program using LEED and served as director for 13 years. Bahar has managed and administered over 135 LEED Projects including 13 LEED Platinum certified buildings and first platinum project in the state of Florida. Under her leadership, UF was one of the leading universities in building green. Bahar is also one the first three and first female LEED Fellows in Florida.

Gainesville officials take 'sister city' trip to Kurdistan to strengthen collaboration

Gainesville officials who recently made a "sister city" visit to the Kurdistan region of Iraq say the trip could be fruitful in building partnerships and cultural ties. Mayor Lauren Poe and Commissioner Adrian Hayes-Santos visited the cities in the Kurdistan region, such as Duhok and Erbil, from June 7 through 13.

For officials from Duhok, Iraq, the third time was a charm to finally travel to Gainesville for a “sister cities” visit. Since the city became part of Gainesville’s sister cities program in 2006, officials had planned two trips here but could not make it, once because of an ongoing war with ISIS and the coronavirus pandemic.
