Biography
Cary Wasden earned both a bachelor's degree in Zoology and Biochemistry and a Master of Public Administration from Brigham Young University before pursuing doctoral studies in Public Policy and Management at The Ohio State University. After completing his written and oral examinations, he proposed a dissertation examining the welfare effects of privatization in developing countries.
While conducting his dissertation research, Wasden was invited to consult for J.P. Morgan Securities as the firm prepared four recently privatized energy companies for public offerings. That opportunity launched a 25-year international career in investment banking and management, during which he worked in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, London, and Bellevue, Washington.
In 2009, Brigham Young University–Hawaii invited Wasden to join its faculty on a six-month teaching assignment, which ultimately extended to six years. Since 2015, he has served as a Professional in Residence in the Finance and Economics Department at Utah Valley University, where he brings extensive international business and financial industry experience into the classroom.
