Career Highlight (professional)
It is said to teach is to change a life. Michael was a 36 year old student of mine in a training center. It took me about four (3) weeks to get this charming man to use a keyboard. He had spent 18 years in the training center refusing to even hold a pencil His first solo keyboarding act was to send an email to his favourite TV show. His mother was so disbelieving she came to the training room to see. Different eyes with appropriate professional training can change autistic people's worlds.
Too Dumb For Grade 8 (personal)
In high school I was told I had to go to 'special class'. I refused to go to school and would go to the university library to read books on history, art, business, media and social sciences. A few years later; at 17 years of age I became the youngest ever announcer on a major commercial capital city radio station. Today, some time later, I remain the youngest female. I worked seven (7) five (5) hour shifts a fortnight (Australia still has very long shifts compared to the rest of the world).
