Biography

Cathy Gallagher-Louisy is sought-after guest speaker at professional and academic conferences and events on Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Crosscultural Competence, and Diversity as an essential part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

As the Director of Community Partnerships and Knowledge Services at the Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion, Cathy leads the CIDI’s research portfolio and is the author of the major research report What Gets Measured Gets Done: Measuring the Return on Investment of Diversity and Inclusion. She is asked to speak regularly on the results of this groundbreaking report – the first on the topic in Canada. Cathy is also a consultant, helping CIDI members and clients to develop strategic D&I and cultural competence strategies, programs, initiatives, training, and developmental tools.

Cathy is also a part-time instructor at the University of Toronto (U of T) School of Continuing Studies, delivering seminars to instructors on Teaching Diverse Adult Learners and she is a regular guest lecturer at the U of T St. Michael’s College Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Prior to joining the CIDI, one of Cathy’s key roles was as the leader of D&I and CSR initiatives within Canada for Hewitt Associates, where she was the lead diversity trainer for Canada.

A dynamic, articulate communicator in both public sector and private sector settings with professional training in adult education, as well as significant experience with both in-person and online public speaking, Cathy is also a certified cultural competence trainer, a certified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), and a certified instructor of the Cultural Detective training series.

Cathy has developed both introductory and advanced D&I and cultural competence training courses for several organizations. Additionally, she has provided cultural competence training for new immigrants to Canada, and she has provided pro-bono customized crosscultural competence training to immigrant serving organizations in Toronto.
