Biography
Chippy Wassung is a Los Angeles–based dance educator, award-winning screendance producer, and dance filmmaker with more than 25 years of experience spanning K–12 dance education, curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and professional artistic practice. She holds an M.A. in Dance Education from New York University and a B.A. in World Arts and Cultures/Dance from UCLA.
Throughout her career, Chippy has been committed to both developing young artists and advancing the field of dance education. She has designed standards-based K–12 curricula, supervised and mentored emerging dance educators, led professional development, and served as a field supervisor for UCLA teacher candidates.
Chippy previously directed Gabriella Charter School's award-winning dance education program and currently serves as K–12 Dance Department Chair at Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica.
Central to Chippy's creative practice is screendance and the intersection of choreography, filmmaking, and arts education. Her screen works have been presented at festivals and venues across the United States and internationally, including California, Washington, New York, Utah, Wyoming, Buenos Aires, and Australia. As an award-winning screendance producer, she collaborates with professional directors, cinematographers, designers, and production artists while casting student dancers to provide authentic professional on-set experience and build their artistic résumés.
Her produced film CANVAS has received numerous national and international honors, including the 2023 StandardVision Showcase Award for Artistic Achievement and Audience Choice Award at the 2023 Los Angeles Dance Film Festival. The film also received the Audience Choice Award at the 2024 Light Dance Festival in Seattle, Washington, and the Best Youth Dance Company Award at the 2024 Inspired Dance Film Festival in Australia. Her subsequent film, LightBodies, was selected for the Utah Dance Film Festival and Wyoming International Film Festival, and her newest work, RE/FRAME, is beginning its dance film festival journey.
