Biography
An entrepreneur interested in land preservation and agricultural issues, Chuck Horning spends most of his time on his northern Sierra Nevada foothills ranch properties. In all, he owns about 12,000 acres of land in Plumas and Butte Counties, California, and he concentrates on good stewardship by pursuing wildlife conservation, land restoration, and habitat creation. In guiding the restoration process, Chuck Horning implements projects to combat erosion and to protect historical structures like pioneer roads and mines that go back to the Gold Rush period.
Complementing his role as steward, Chuck Horning owns and operates businesses active in the vacation resort marketplace. Presently, he helps lead Newport Federal in his capacity as chairman. Over his long career, he has overseen successful ventures in areas ranging from assisted living to commercial real estate. He studied at Pacific Union College, from which he earned his bachelor of arts. Later, Mr. Horning "unlearned" his formal education through the kind of practical experience that makes for strong business leadership.
