Biography
A physical therapist who has a PhD in physiologist with emphasis on neurophysiology and cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology. In addition to these areas has taught general pathophysiology with particular interests in cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions, neuropathology, diabetes and oncology. Has taught at the University level for over 35 years. Has given over a hundred national and international professional presentations and has numerous professional publications. Has served as an academic administrator for 24 years as a department chair in physical therapy at two different universities. Presently serves as a leadership mentor in the Educational Leadership Institute of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Has served in several leadership roles in the APTA and the Alpha Eta National Honor Society. Has over 25 years of experience with physical therapy accreditation and program development. Serves as a site visitor and team leader for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Has personal experience in these areas at two universities. Founded the graduate level physical therapy program and undergraduate major in rehabilitation sciences and minor in neuroscience at Armstrong State University. Has consulted with several universities about physical therapy program development, physical therapy accreditation, curricular design and teaching method innovation. Has served on committees of the APTA related to educational innovation, professional prerequisites and centralized application services. Was an advisor to the Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) for 6 years. Serves as a continuing education program reviewer for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). Is the recipient of several teaching and service awards. Has become interested in recent years in sustainable agriculture and has spoken at the TEDx Creative Coast on this topic. Is also interested in issues related to the environment and is environmental sustainability. Is a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Sierra Club. Has spoken, written and marched for environmental issues. Is a patron of the arts and a major contributor to the Savannah Music Festival.
