Biography

Dr. Dawn Richards, Psy.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Fieldwork Coordinator of the School Psychology program at LMU. Prior to joining LMU, she worked as a school psychologist in public schools for 10 years, providing assessment, consultation, and intervention services to diverse student populations. In her current role, Dr. Richards teaches graduate-level courses and oversees externship, practicum, and internship placements, with a strong emphasis on ethical practice, professional development, and culturally responsive service delivery.

Dr. Richards is a Licensed Educational Psychologist and Diplomat of School Neuropsychology. Her interests include social justice advocacy, increasing educational access for Black students and LGBTQ+ youth, and preparing future school psychologists to work effectively with marginalized communities.

In addition to her work at LMU, Dr. Richards regularly volunteers for the Black School Psychologist Network, an organization dedicated to supporting, elevating, and advancing the work of Black school psychologists. Through teaching, supervision, and advocacy efforts, she remains deeply committed to promoting inclusive, equitable, and strengths-based practices in school psychology.
