Biography

Dr. Tripp joined the Department of Psychology at Queen’s in 2001 (also appointed to Depts of Anesthesiology & Urology). Dr. Tripp is a Clinical Consultant & active researcher.

Dr. Tripp was awarded the Canadian Pain Society Early Career Award (2008) for his research and the Excellence in Interprofessional Education Award (2011) for his workshop delivery and development efforts. Dr. Tripp has published over 50 peer reviewed research papers and book chapters research examining community chronic pain experience and depression as well as Chronic Prostatitis in men and Painful Bladder Syndrome / Interstitial Cystitis in women (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010). Dr. Tripp's research and clinical interests have always focused on health (e.g., chronic pain), stress and interpersonal adjustment. He has researched broad issues of including psychological factors involved in disability following soft tissue injury (e.g., whiplash), gender differences in pain, pain/disability following work injury and cognitive models of distress and optimism.

Dr. Tripp is a sought after speaker. He teaches courses in Health Psychology, Interpersonal Therapy, Pain, Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and has established his Psychology Pain Research Unit.

Dr. Tripp has been awarded A Queen's University wide teaching excellence award (2009) which he was nominated for in several previous years. He was also nominated for the TVOntario lecturer of the year in 2008.

Dr. Tripp has been invited to lecture internationally (South Africa, England, China) and across Canada and the USA. His programs have had consistently positive reviews. Previous event attendees have evaluated them as a, “great mixture of thought provoking commentary, fun, and valuable take home points for practice”, “a refreshing change from the usual”, ”a new and welcomed perspective”.
