Biography

PAMELA D. STRAKER, Ph.D.

Dr. Straker, a licensed psychologist, life/business coach, speaker, certified school psychologist, and author of the book Let Me Stop You Right There and 28 Other Lines Every CEO, Manager, and Supervisor Should Know, has more than 25 years experience as a mental health and management professional. In her current capacity as consultant, she serves as a Psychologist Peer Reviewer for the Optum Health/United Health Group. She recently served as a Trainer and Program Coach for Emotional Literacy within the Psychology Department of Yale University. Dr. Straker also provided consulting services to the Special Services Department of the Hoboken, New Jersey Board of Education. She has served as a consultant to the Office of Special Programs for the City University of New York. She served as president and CEO of a NYC mental health agency from 1999 to 2008. Dr. Straker has been consulted by and appeared on numerous television and radio programs, and has taught at several university settings. She was named alumna of the month by Hofstra University in September 2011. She was the recipient of the Brooklyn Borough President’s Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Humanitarian Award in 2006. She has served on the Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel of the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Kings County Democratic County Committee; and the New York State Assembly Mental Health Committee Task Force/Underserved Populations Subcommittee.

Dr. Straker was recruited to serve as an active member of the External Review Team of the New Jersey Department of Education, monitoring the educational practices of that state’s largest city, Newark. Dr. Straker holds a doctoral degree in School-Community Psychology from Hofstra University, where she also received a master’s degree, and has achieved alumna status at Columbia University’s Executive Level Institute for Not-for-Profit Management. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester.

Dr. Straker has been a member of the International Coaching Federation and is available to speak to the media and professional and community groups about management, mental health, and educational issues.

Dr. Straker was named alumna of the month by Hofstra University in September 2011. She was the recipient of the Brooklyn Borough President’s Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Humanitarian Award in 2006. Dr. Straker is also currently a member of the Channel 13 Tri-State (NY, NJ, Connecticut) Advisory Board.
