Eliot Pence

Director | The Whitaker Group

Creating conditions for sustainable prosperity in Africa is the focus of The Whitaker Group's Director, and a Global Governance Fellow

Eliot is a Director at The Whitaker Group (TWG), an Africa-focused investment advisory and corporate strategy firm. His work spans multiple sectors and focuses on helping business unit leaders and senior corporate executives navigate regulatory and political environments in frontier markets.

Recent projects have included, conducting due-diligence on a power project in West Africa, developing a business development strategy for a pan-African bank, and helping a major commodities producer navigate sector reform in a post-conflict environment. He has on-the-ground experience working in a dozen African countries, including Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Kenya.

His interest in global governance grows out of earlier research on the World Intellectual Property Organization for the Information Society Project at Yale Law School, as well as out of policy work at the African Virtual University, a World Bank project in Nairobi. Eliot is a contributor to CNN’s Global Public Square and a speaker at frontier investment conferences.

Prior to joining TWG, Eliot worked for the Canadian Embassy in Washington and the Research and Innovation Facility, a World Bank project, in Nairobi.

He holds an M.A. from Yale and B.A. from the University of Victoria.
