Biography

Elsy Arévalo is Director of the Center for Religion and Spirituality at Loyola Marymount University, where she provides strategic leadership for mission-driven programming and outreach. She also teaches courses in Christian Spirituality, Spiritual Direction, and Contemplative Practices in both English and Spanish.

With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Ms. Arévalo has led national mentoring and training initiatives, including work with the U.S. Department of Education. She has developed curricula, facilitated leadership formation, and presented widely on mentorship, spirituality, and community engagement.

Her work is grounded in accompanying diverse communities—including immigrant families and underserved youth—and fostering inclusive spaces for reflection, healing, and transformation rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition.

Ms. Arévalo holds a Master’s degree in Pastoral Theology with a specialization in Spiritual Direction from Loyola Marymount University. She is married, a mother of three, and a member of Comunidad SEA, a contemplative community for lay people.
