Biography

Emily J. Blevins (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at LMU. Her work aims to reduce the occurrence of interpersonal harm and oppression and promote healing practices within individuals, families, and communities. More specifically, Dr. Blevins examines how White Americans' emotions influence racist and antiracist behaviors, how racism and interpersonal violence impact individuals, and how to leverage family and community systems to help people to heal from trauma. She is passionate about improving measures of emotion, leveraging psychological science to combat inequality, and partnering with families and communities to promote healing and well-being.

Dr. Blevins is a proud first-generation college graduate. She received her BA in Psychology and International Studies from the University of Richmond and PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of Illinois. Dr. Blevins also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School prior to joining LMU's Psychology Department. She enjoys spending time with her family, being near the water, and trying all the foods that LA has to offer.
