Biography

Emily Fisher, Ph.D., is a professor in the School Psychology program. She teaches courses focused on counseling and treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders for children and adolescents. Dr. Fisher has published extensively on school-based supports for LGBTQ+ youth. She is the publication member of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Committee for the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and she led the writing team in revising NASP’s most recent position statement on supporting LGBTQ+ students. Her most recent book, Counseling Special Populations in Schools, addresses strength-based approaches to build resilience among highly marginalized young people, including those who are homeless, living in foster care, and involved in the juvenile justice system. Dr. Fisher is also interested in methods to develop cultural humility among pre-service professionals. Her experience working in clinical, juvenile justice, and school settings informs her work.
