Emmy Diaz

Emmylou Diaz is a television writer, producer, director, and educator with more than a decade of experience in scripted television. Her credits include Jane the Virgin, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Charmed, Station 19, Monarch, and The Watchful Eye. She has written and produced television through the co-executive producer level and brings extensive experience in writers’ rooms, production, and the development of character-driven stories for the screen.

As a filmmaker, Diaz is drawn to stories that find humor in emotional complexity and explore the messy contradictions of human relationships. Her short film A Peculiar Morning earned Best Director at the Allentown Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award at UCLAxFilmFest and has screened at eight festivals to date, including the Chicago Latino Film Festival, Phoenix Film Festival, and Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival.

Diaz is also committed to developing and mentoring emerging writers. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Writers Guild of America West Latinx Writers Committee and as Advisor to the Humanitas New Voices Fellowship. She has taught and mentored writers through Sundance Collab, Script Anatomy, Writing Pad, and other professional programs. Her teaching emphasizes character, story structure, collaboration, and helping writers develop their own voices and points of view.

Diaz is an Assistant Professor of Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television. She earned her B.A. cum laude in English and Theatre from Williams College and her M.F.A. in Acting from the Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University (Moscow Art Theatre School).
