Biography
Dressed in a full suit and tie, business executive and entrepreneur Gary N. Cooper doesn’t much look like a rock star. However, as soon as he settles in behind his seven-piece drum set, it’s apparent Gary is in his element.
Operating a successful Houston-based CPA practice by day, Gary’s love of music is so strong that he built a music studio at his Houston office equipped with conga drums, bass guitar, a tambourine, cow bell and other instruments. The walls are covered in memorabilia from the likes of the Beatles, The Who, Neil Young and Janis Joplin.
Once a month, Gary’s rock star altar ego takes over when he is joined by other Houston executives to “jam out.” At the monthly Forward Results jam session, the studio fills to capacity with like-minded professionals who bring along their own personal instruments including a saxophone, keyboard, harmonica and guitars.
Accompanied by singers who want to join in the fun, the group of baby boomers belt out top hits from the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and others.
With the charisma and energy of a rock star, Gary N. Cooper, president and CEO of Cooper CPA Group, PC, is not your typical CPA.
Gary established his full-service accounting and consulting firm in 2004 and serves individuals and mid-market companies in a broad range of industries including medical, retail, commercial, hospitality and manufacturing. Prior to relocating to Houston, he built and operated a successful, multi-million-dollar accounting practice in Dallas from 1989 to 2002.
With more than 35 years in public accounting, Gary’s expertise includes tax compliance, litigation support and business acquisitions including price, asset allocation, working capital analysis and tax ramifications. His SEC reporting experience includes initial public registrations, debt and equity filings, and compliance filings.
