Biography
Heather Innes is Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer for General Motors of Canada Limited. She also serves as the Global Process Leader for General Motors' International Trade Law group that includes 16 lawyers in 15 countries, managing trade law issues such as free trade agreements, development of auto policies, subsidy programs, anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations that affect GM's global operations. Heather advises her clients on strategic legal issues, governance and other day to day corporate, privacy, restructuring, acquisitions/divestitures, financial and commercial transactions, distribution law and regulatory compliance matters.
A frequent speaker and trainer on topics ranging from international sales and transactions and trade law to privacy, anti-corruption, corporate/commercial law, global team management and risk assessment, Heather has broad speaking experience and has written articles on a wide range of substantive and organizational issues. She has been a guest lecturer for the Ivey Executive MBA program, speaking on Doing Business in China, the Osgoode Master's Program in International Law on the Risks of Doing International Business, and a lecturer for the joint Canadian Bar Association/Canadian Government training course on the International Sale of Goods, delivered to the All China Lawyers Association in Beijing.
Actively involved in the Ontario and Canadian Bar Association activities for over 20 years, Heather serves on the executives of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, the Canadian Bar Association and Ontario Bar Association International Law Sections.
