Research Focus
Rhetoricized Reality
This project examines Rudich’s proposal that life during the first two centuries of the Roman Empire was characterized by dissimulation to such an extent that it had become “rhetoricized.” It then draws comparisons with current American society, considering instances of what Baudrillard referred to as “fake originals” that suggest that a rhetoricized existence was not limited to Rome.
