Biography

Dr. Janet Favreau received a B.M in Piano Performance from University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. She earned a M.M. from University of Southern California. Dr. Favreau was offered a scholarship to the Advanced Artist Diploma program at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She returned to the United States in 1991, after teaching in Canada and Poland. Dr. Favreau also serves on the faculty of Los Angeles Harbor College. She has a successful private piano studio. She is a member of MTAC (President 1998-99), MTNA, Cambridge “Who’s Who in America”, Executive Board of the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, Paderewski Music Society and other organizations.

Her students have won many prizes including the Southern California Junior Bach Festival every year since 1994, Regionals, gold, silver and bronze medals at the Finals “Complete Works”, Bach Festival for chamber music, MTAC Panel Honors Competition, International Young Artists Peninsula Festival, Liszt International Competition of LA, MTAC Scholarship Auditions, Artists of the Future Concerto Competition, Knox Concerto Competition, Brentwood Concerto Competition, Torrance Concerto Competition, Voce Chamber Music Competition, Redlands Bowl Young Artists Competition, Cypress College Competition, Los Angeles Philharmonic Rising Stars Showcase, CAPMT Sonata Competition, and many others. Her students also have participated in MTAC and Virginia Waring International master classes, Certificate of Merit, Honors Recitals, MTAC convention, Liszt Festival in Hungary-Austria, Austrian Piano Festival, Idyllwild Summer Festival, International Institute for Young Musicians, Ea stman Sc hool of Music academy, Orford Academy, and the Young Artists Program at Tanglewood Festival.

Dr. Favreau also judges for MTAC Competitions, MTNA Baldwin Piano Performance, CAPMT Competitions, the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, SYMF, Peninsula Symphony “Edith Knox” Concerto Competition, IIYM International Competition, Paderewski International Piano Competition, Long Beach Mozart Festival, Los Angeles Chopin Competition and others. She has performed solo and chamber music in the United States, and abroad. She has given lectures on successful teaching for MTAC and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference, “Top Teachers in America”.

In 2005, Janet Favreau was granted a D.M.A. with honors, in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California where she studied with John Perry.
