Biography

Jason Blakely is a Professor of Philosophy working on a broad range of topics in political thought, from ideology and utopianism to the role of scientific and theological authority. The author of widely-read books—including, Utopia for Our Century (with David Albertson, Yale, 2026), Lost in Ideology (Columbia/Agenda, 2024) and We Built Reality (Oxford, 2020)—his writing has also been featured in major public outlets like Harper's Magazine, The Boston Globe, NPR, and The Atlantic. Blakely’s writing has received plaudits from luminaries like Charles Taylor and David Bentley Hart and he has also been referred to as “our finest critic of misplaced appeals to scientific authority in political life.” He has delivered lectures across the U.S. and Europe and his writings have been translated into Spanish, Chinese, and Polish. He was educated at Vassar College and the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied with Mark Bevir and John Searle.
