Companies tap hosted tools for total recruitment makeover

ITBusiness.ca  online

2009-08-18

Canadian industry analysts point to steady growth in the adoption of hosted HR apps among small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs).

“There’s obviously a huge cost advantage per user here,” said Jim Westcott, research manager, applications at IDC Canada in Toronto.

He said efficient, highly-trained IT professionals are scarce today, and hiring them can be costly for SMBs.

In this environment, HR automation tools can play a vital role, Westcott said. Little wonder then that “more companies are seizing the day.”

The number of players in this resurgent market is also growing.

Westcott noted that companies that previously focused mainly on payroll – such as Ceridian and ADP – have also jumped on the bandwagon, offering such services to existing clients and attempting to attract new ones.

Canadian IT Professional Services Forecast, 2018–2022 IDC Canada

Organizations that have delayed or selectively undertaken DX initiatives were more active in 2017, and these investments will continue throughout the forecast period in step with market risks and macroeconomic growth expectations," says Jim Westcott, research manager, Digital Transformation and Application Services.

Canadian Small and Medium-Sized Business ICT Forecast, 2017–2021 IDC Canada

Jim Westcott

July 2017

This IDC study examines the market size and forecast for the small and medium-sized business market in Canada using the spring 2017 update. For the purpose of this document and for the document series in general, the SMB market is defined as businesses with fewer than 500 employees. The document inspects SMB spending for IT products and services:
- Hardware
- Software
- IT services
- Telecom services
The SMB market continues to be a difficult challenge for many providers as the range of IT and telecom requirements is significant and buying and sourcing preferences can be very basic and unsophisticated.

"The SMB market is shifting toward a software and services delivery model, and this will continue to have an increasingly negative effect on the requirements for hardware and telecom services. SMBs in Canada will increasingly rely on 3rd Platform solutions and incorporate digital transformation services as a counter to traditional capital expenditures on hardware and telecom offerings and use these channels as alternatives to retail and small VARs," says Jim Westcott, research manager, IT Services.

Oil Price Crunch: How Will the Canadian Energy ICT Market Respond to "Lower for Longer" Oil Prices? IDC Presentation

February 2016

This IDC Presentation provides a snapshot highlighting the impact on energy sector ICT investments. The core assumptions underpinning the IDC's forecast for the oil and gas sector have significantly deteriorated in the past six months. The key changes are at the macroeconomic level:

-Oil is now expected to stay lower for longer. The consensus economics prediction of "bottoming out" at $40 per barrel has been invalidated. The new consensus for WTI appears to be ~$30 dollar for an extended period before rebounding. Canada's oil sands production will take an even lower price.

-The damage is spilling into other industry sectors. Alberta's public sector is dealing with significantly lower royalty revenue; construction firms have fewer opportunities; Alberta's commercial and industrial real estate looks overbuilt; Calgary's financial services and legal sector is heavily overweighted to the energy patch; and regional consumer confidence is being negatively affected, impacting the retail and wholesale industry.
