Dr. Choi earned his Ph.D. in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining LMU, he served as an assistant professor at Montana Tech and as a researcher and project lead engineer at UCLA. Dr. Choi's research encompasses a wide range of areas, including water and wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, and resource recovery. His work focuses on the development of sustainable in-situ remediation, ex-situ water treatment and desalination processes. By bridging the gap between molecular-level understanding and practical field-scale application, Dr. Choi aims to ensure the prompt implementation of innovative engineering solutions for the benefit of communities. His recent research efforts have been directed towards achieving sustainable water purification and desalination technologies that emphasize cost-effective pollution control, minimal waste generation, maximum resource recovery, and accessibility for widespread use. This includes producing safe drinking water for remote and disadvantaged communities and advancing water treatment technologies and environmental remediation practices to protect and restore natural ecosystems.
