Sexton is the director of the Cyber Institute at Augusta University and assistant professor of computer science. She has 23 years of Navy information technology experience in areas such as hardware maintenance, telecommunications services, computer center operations, information security practice, and software development, support and quality assurance. She has served as the first commanding officer of what is known today as Navy Information Operations Command Georgia. Sexton holds master's degrees in computer science and national and strategic studies and is a certified information systems security professional (CISSP). She also holds the following Global Information Assurance Certifications (GIAC): GSEC, GCIH, GCIA and GPEN.
