Biography
Joe Milstone is co-founder of Cognition LLP, the industry leader driving the changes in which business legal services are offered, delivered and procured in Canada. Cognition provides senior, business-minded legal services at affordable rates, under flexible structures and with counsel possessing a unique blend of private practice and in-house experience. As a testament to its success, Cognition has been on Profit Magazine’s list of fastest growing businesses for the past two years, and Joe has become a frequent speaker and commentator on the changing legal industry. Joe has spoken at the CBA Canadian Legal Conference, the CCCA Spring Conference, The Commons Institute, The Canadian Institute In-House Counsel Congress, the Financial Executives International Annual Conference and even at partner retreats for traditional Bay Street law firms.
Before co-founding Cognition, Joe worked at Oslers and the Canadian Bankers Association, and then as Vice President, Legal and Business Affairs at Call-Net Enterprises (Sprint Canada) and Magna Entertainment. His mix of BigLaw, in-house leadership and Cognition experiences gives him a unique perspective on how the legal industry should transform for the benefit of corporate counsel and legal departments.
Joe holds a joint LL.B./M.B.A. degree from Osgoode Hall/Schulich School of Business and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994.
