Biography

John’s been building health care businesses for over 30 years. He spent most of his corporate career working at the interface of research and commercial functions in innovative health care manufacturing organizations (Johnson & Johnson, Endo Pharmaceuticals)–now he brings his experiences assessing new technologies, leading negotiations and designing partnership to his consulting practice (Buckingham Alliance Partners, Inc.) and to start-up life sciences ventures through the MaRS Discovery District. John uses his extensive background in pharma licensing, partnership management and global business development to help his clients build sustainable, scalable businesses and to address business opportunities and challenges in a creative, efficient and risk-mitigating manner.

Accomplishments

Senior VP, Alliance Management, Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Within two years of starting the alliance management function at Endo Pharmaceuticals, a semi-virtual US drug manufacturer and marketer with annual sales revenue of ~$600 million, the company was recognized by ASAP (Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals) in the annual ASAP Alliance Excellence Awards program, an unusual accomplishment for a company of Endo's size (previous winners included Eli Lilly, Cisco, IBM, etc.)

VP, Corporate Development, Janssen Pharmaceutical Products, LP

Completed a licensing transaction for a Phase II oncology drug, with intense competition from several large competitors with more-established oncology expertise, with less attractive financial terms than were offered by competition.

Executive Director, Global Market Development

Prepared the launch program and worked with J&J companies worldwide to introduce and build demand for recombinant human erythropoietin (EPREX, PROCRIT in the US). Led the global commercial team until global annual sales revenue surpassed US$ 1 billion, the first prescription product for the company to ever pass that milestone.
