Biography
Dr. Jon Anderson serves as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Southern Utah University. As SUU’s provost, Dr. Anderson will oversee university matters that affect academic programs, scholarly and creative efforts, and outreach involving faculty, students and staff. He will provide leadership for academic quality, academic appointments, tenure and promotion, as well as fostering a positive learning environment.
Dr. Anderson comes to SUU from Middle Georgia State University where he served as provost and vice president of academic affairs. Bringing 15 years of experience in higher education administration to SUU, he has previously filled the roles of deputy provost, associate vice president of academic affairs, accreditation liaison, associate dean, and director of the MBA program at the University of West Georgia.
Originally from Utah, Dr. Anderson has spent the majority of his adult life in Georgia. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration: Management from the University of Kentucky, a Master's in Business Education from what is now the University of West Georgia, and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Utah State University.

Following Woodbury’s remarks, SUU Provost Jon Anderson proclaimed the degree recipients as having been officially graduated. The actual awarding of diplomas was scheduled to occur later throughout the day, during the various college commencement ceremonies around campus.

SUU Provost Jon Anderson added that the scholarship is meant to help students who are part of a vulnerable population but who aren’t typically assisted by other available awards applying to college. Applications for school obviously don’t ask about that kind of difficult experience. And it means those survivors can slip through the cracks, he said.
