Jon Dooley leads the university division with multiple departments responsible for student involvement, welfare, and well-being.

Biography

Dr. Jon Dooley came to Elon University in January 2014 as the Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Campus Life, with responsibility for several offices and university initiatives for diversity and inclusion, service learning and civic engagement, and the integration of students’ residential and academic student experiences.

He has served in his current role as Vice President for Student Life since June 1, 2017. He is the chief student affairs officer for the university and serves on the president’s senior staff. He is responsible for all aspects of student life at the university, including 15 departments that provide student services, programs, and experiences that support student learning and a thriving campus community.

As an associate professor, Dr. Dooley regularly teaches courses at the university, most recently in the undergraduate Core Curriculum. Throughout his career, he has served as an instructor for graduate and undergraduate courses in leadership, diversity and social justice, and college student personnel administration. His research and writing interests include service learning, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, and student affairs in higher education.

Prior to his arrival at Elon, held administrative leadership roles at Marquette University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with oversight and supervision for a variety of student affairs functional areas, including for leadership development, student activities and organizations, student government advising, fraternity/sorority life, music programs, and student affairs assessment. He is a frequent presenter at national student affairs conferences, serves as a co-lead facilitator for LeaderShape, and is a former chair of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Board of Directors.
