Biography
Dr. Jose F. Parodi is Geriatrician and Professor of Geriatrics and Public Health in undergraduate and graduate, in the Faculty of Human Medicine at the Universidad de San Martin de Porres of Peru (FMH-USMP). He is also Director of Center for Ageing Research – CIEN of the FMH-USMP. Through CIEN, he collaborates as external advisor, with the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO). He has advised on issues of public health and aging to health and social ministries in Latin America. He has served in various national and global committees for Health and Ageing and also has participated as expert and advisor for international institutions on the issue of aging and health. He is author or coauthor of numerous articles in clinical journals and books.

2019 Physical performance in the older adult has been extensively studied. However, only a few studies have evaluated physical performance among older adults of high Andean populations and none have studied the factors associated with it. The objective of this study was to evaluate factors associated with poor physical performance by using the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) in older adults living in 11 Peruvian high Andean communities.

2019 Sarcopenia is a geriatric syndrome characterized by loss of muscle mass and strength. The prevalence in people between 60-70 years is about 5-13% and in adults over 80 years, between 11-50% in the USA. Sarcopenia increases the risk of mortality and nosocomial infections.

2017 Cohort study that included patients with cancer with medical recommendation of radiotherapy, who attended the outpatient department of geriatrics at Naval Medical Center (Lima, Peru) between 2013 and 2015. Before receiving radiation therapy sessions, we measured frailty using Fried phenotype, and vulnerability using VES-13 and G-8 scales.
