Biography
In addition to his arts management work, he has acted and directed in a number of colligate and professional productions, including three Greenshows, and taught in the Cedar City area high schools. He has served as the spokesperson for the Utah Advisory Council of Theatre Teachers and has been a member at large of the Utah Thespians Association. He currently serves on the boards of the Utah Cultural Alliance and Utah Cultural Advocacy Alliance.
Stavros earned a bachelor's degree in Theatre and an MFA in arts administration from Southern Utah University.

Few things capture the feel of the Renaissance as much as a greenshow, and few greenshows can compare to Utah Shakespeare Festival’s. One of my earliest theatrical memories is sitting on the grass in front of the stage watching the performers of the Greenshow dance around a maypole. To learn about the secret to the Greenshow’s staying power and accessibility, I interviewed this year’s co-director, Joshua Stavros.

AA 3030 - Arts Advocacy
Students will develop an understanding of arts advocacy and cultural policy at an introductory level, developing strategies to engage with civic, business, state, and federal agencies on behalf of the arts. Students will become empowered advocates for the arts through readings, case studies, discussions, professional practice, and critical analysis of advocacy at the state and federal level.
AA 6800 - Board Relations and Planning
This course provides an in-depth study of the role of a Board of Directors and the planning process as it effects the operation of arts and cultural organizations. Specific topics covered include board and staff interaction, board duties and responsibilities, fundraising, governance models, strategic planning, parliamentary procedures for meetings, committee structures, and developing by-laws and policies.
AA 6040 - Arts Advocacy and Cultural Policy
Students will develop an understanding of arts advocacy and cultural policy at multiple levels, developing strategies to engage with civic, business, state, and federal agencies on behalf of the arts. Students will become empowered advocates for the arts through readings, case studies, discussions, professional practice, and critical analysis of both national and international cultural policy.
AA 6810 - Marketing in the Arts I
Students will be able to identify and develop arts audiences and to increase earned income through the study of audience segmentation, market research, branding, special promotions, advertising, public relations, and online marketing.
