Julie Jackson

Biography

Dr. Julie Jackson is passionate about Social Justice advocacy, teaching clinicians in the classroom as well as out in the field, community-based mental health services, Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and snowboarding down mountains at a top speed of 35mph.

Dr. Jackson received her education in Family Systems and Clinical Psychology at Adler University in Chicago. She trained and worked at The Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR), housed at the University of Illinois, Chicago. At IJR, Dr. Jackson trained in the Disruptive Behavioral Disorders Clinic (DBDC) and worked in the Urban Youth Trauma Center (UYTC), an Affiliate of National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). She has taught psychology students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Dr. Jackson enjoys training and has experience as a Director of Clinical Training (DCT). Additional clinical experience includes: domestic violence, inpatient treatment, and the school system (public, private, and therapeutic settings).

Dr. Jackson’s research interests include: the Social Development of Biracial Individuals, Impact of Faith on HIV Prevention/Intervention, personality pairings of clinicians and clients, ADHD and Family Functioning, Community Violence and Academic Functioning, and the De-stigmatization of Mental Health and Mental Health Services in Communities of Color. Currently, Dr. Jackson is working on Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to bridge faith with mental health services and the use of gamification as an intervention for ADHD.
