Karen Gifford is the vice president of Information Technology Infrastructure & Technical Services.

Biography

A proven leader in information technology with over 30 years of experience in the field. Karen is responsible for IT Infrastructure which includes Network, Cloud/Server/Data Center, Desktop/Mobile, Communications/Automation/Print, Productivity, Network Operations, Service Center and Access Management. These components of infrastructure are the foundations for systems to run effectively in a critical healthcare environment. During her tenure, she drove several important changes in IT at ChristianaCare. Among these were substantial upgrades to the IT infrastructure, advances in the utilization of productivity and collaboration tools, communications, and critical innovations in the use of technology. Karen has worked to establish innovative approaches to support the integration of technologies into the hospital environment. Karen is also responsible for the Digital Acceleration Group, a dedicated team focused on bringing the “far to the near” in advanced technologies to support healthcare innovation. Karen graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Business Computer Information Systems. She started her career with Chemical Bank New York (in Wilmington) then moved to the Medical Center of Delaware (now ChristianaCare) in 1990 as a computer analyst responsible for implementing and supporting PC technology for the hospital. Over the years she has transitioned into leadership positions with development opportunities involving SIM’s Regional Leadership Forum (Society of Information Management) as well as the Advisory Board Fellowship for Health Care Executive Leadership. Karen believes strongly in establishing team environments and strong relationships. She supports a culture of hard work, structured approaches, and excellence while also having fun.
